When we buy new prescription glasses or sunglasses, we pay close attention to caring for their lenses so they last a long time, but taking care of the frames of both prescription and sunglasses is essential to make them last as long as possible.
Main problems with glasses frames:
- Deformation: This usually occurs in the temples of metal glasses, but also in the rims of lenses in both metal and plastic frames.
- Chipping: In plastic glasses, this happens when the color starts to fade or crack.
What should we do to take care of our glasses frames?
- Protect from high temperatures.
This is the main reason glasses deform or lose color. Never leave your glasses in the sun without a case, or even with it if they will be very exposed (for example, inside a car).
- Always store your glasses in their case.
Do not leave them on your head or hanging from your shirt collar.
- Clean the lenses properly.
When cleaning your lenses, always hold the frame by the rim of the lens you are cleaning. We tend to hold the glasses by the lens we are not cleaning, which deforms the rim because we are applying pressure to clean.
- Do not use abrasive products.
The best option to clean your glasses is always water with mild soap. For lenses, just water is recommended to avoid damaging any coatings they may have (such as anti-reflective).
- Take care of all parts of the frame.
We tend to clean the lenses and forget the rest. It is important to clean the temples, especially the area that rests on the ears. Also keep the nose pads or the bridge area clean in glasses without nose pads. For drying, always use cotton, chamois, or a cloth made of this fabric.
If you have designer glasses and any part gets damaged or broken, remember that we have original replacement parts for designer glasses. This way, your glasses will always look like new.
